theme "Rain and Groundwater as Heavenly
Blessing", under the auspices of National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology,
and in cooperation with "Society for
Thanking Rain and Water as Heavenly Blessing".

Presentation(1) "Religion and Water in Japan"
The first is entitled "Religion and
Water in Japan" as scientific presentation
utilizing an abundant database of groundwater
throughout Japan as investigated by Geological
Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced
Industrial Science and Technology (AIST),
in order to show the close relations between
traditional water-kami and modern water supply.
Presenters: Prof. Allan G. Grapard, University
of California, Santa Barbara, and D.Sc. Atsunao
Marui, Senior Researcher at Water Environment
Research Group of AIST.
Presentation(2) "Thanking Rain and Water as Heavenly
Blessing"
The second is a literary and cultural presentation
by members of "Society for Thanking
Rain and Water as Heavenly Blessing"
of how rain and water have been valued in
mythology, poetry, literature, and folklore
in Japan. They will also appeal to create
a new National Holiday of Thanking Rain and
Water.

Groves in the Megalopolis Tokyo"
In addition, 25 photographs of "Aerial
Views of Sacred Forests and Groves in the
Megalopolis Tokyo", along with geological
maps, will be exhibited in the Event Hall.
