Result of Shinto Essay Competition 2001
Sponsored by the International Shinto Foundation
(September 21, 2001)

    11 students from 7 universities in 3 countries contributed to the Shinto Essay Competition 2001. The essays were carefully read and evaluated by 6 jurors, who are members of the ISF's Board of Trustees. We are pleased to announce the result of their judgements as follows. Due to very close judgement points we have decided to distinguish the excellent and good essays by one 1st prize, one 2nd prize, one 3rd prize and two encouraging prizes. The essays belong to the International Shinto Foundation and the prize winning ones will be published in due time.

    Apart from the above-mentioned English language Shinto Essay Competition, ISF has been organizing also the Chinese language Essay Competition entitled "Shinto and Japanese Culture". 5 Chinese graduate students participated in this year's competition. 5 Chinese scholars specialized in Japanese cultural studies have carefully read them all and judged with the result of no first prize winner, two second prize winners, one third prize winner and two encouraging prize winners. The Chinese essays are edited and published at the Zhejiang University Institute of Japanese Cultural Studies.
