Activities Summary of the International Shinto Foundation in 1998

1998 January Donated a 125-volume set of "Shinto Taikei" to the C.V. Starr East Asian Library, Columbia University, U.S.
February Signed to the contribution of funds to establish a new "Centre for the Study of Japanese Religions" at SOAS of the University of London.
March Decided to provide a research fund for "The General Studies of Nishinomiya Shrine and Ebisu Belief" for the next three years.
May Held the Fourth International Symposium, "The Kyoto Protocol, the Environment, and Shinto" in New York, commemorating accreditation as UN NGO.
June Held the Fifth International Symposium, "Shinto and Noh" at Igusa Hachimangu Shrine and Tokyu Inn Kichijyoji in Tokyo.
June Held a discussion meeting "Information Exchange of Shinto Studies in Pacific Rim Region" at Tokyu Inn Kichijoji in Tokyo.
June Hosted the first Shinto Wedding at the Church Center for the UN in New York.
September Set up a new Chair in Shinto and Japanese Culture at Zhejiang University in China, along with a donation of "Shinto Taikei" .
October Held the second Shinto seminar "Scrutinity of State Shinto - from Japan, Asia, Europe, and America" at Keidanren Hall in Tokyo.
October Sponsored the second Shinto Essay Competition.
