| The
Offering Tea Ceremony in New York. |
On August 4th, 2004, ISF NY Center organized an
"Offering tea ceremony" at the Interfaith Center of
NY. This offering tea ceremony, a traditional ceremony performed
before Shinto Shrines and in Buddhist Temples in Japan, provided
a uninque experience for the many metropolitan area New Yorkers
who attended the event. We were honored to have the community
support of Mushakouji Senke Kankyu'an, Ritsumeikan NY Alumni Association
and ITO EN NY for this first time event at ISF as well.
The Ceremony was performed by Mr. Soryuu Kidzu VI who is the Tea
Master of Chado Mushakouji Senke, one of the three main tea schools
in Japan. On behalf of the participants, Director and Tea Master
of Urasenke Chanoyu Center, Mr. Hisashi Yamada offered an evergreen
branch to the Altar as representative of the 100 guests who attended
the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, Mr. Soryuu Kidzu presented a lecture entitled
"Chado Mushakouji Senke and Offering Tea Ceremony."
A post ceremony celebration included participants enjoying traditional
Japanese sweets and tea served by Mushakouji Senke Bokusuikai,
NY branch and pet tea bottle contributed by ITO EN NY to all.
