They have around 380,000 publications about Japan among their collection of 850,000 books. Twice a year the Japanese government donates a large container of publications. This library is open to the public as well as students, and anyone can sign up to borrow books.

ISF presented 121 volumes of "Shinto Taikei" to UCB East Asia library. Yoshimi Umeda, direct-general of ISF was invited to the Presentation Ceremony on April 12, 2003.

Dr. Delmar Brown who has been teaching Japanese culture for a long time at UCB, is working to advance the digitization project of the Shintoism reference. Dr Brown stated "I am very glad to have the Shinto Taikei at my disposal when studying Shintoism. This is very wonderful for scholars and students who study Shintoism not only at the University of California but through out San Francisco as well. I want to go public as soon as possible and provide facilities to our researchers."
